Mark Ward

The Trussell Trust

Mark lives in Sandleheath on the edge of the New Forest with wife Margaret who runs “front of house” at Salisbury Cathedral Refectory. They have 3 married children who all live in the Midlands or North and 5 grandchildren. Both enjoy walking especially in Pembrokeshire and watching foreign language thrillers!

The Trust is a charity which works with people in Poverty. It’s main activity has been to grow foodbanks across the UK and it has helped over 450 communities to do so, feeding hundreds of thousands of people in crisis ( The next large project is expanding “More Than Food” which is about linking clients with people who can help to resolve their issues, debt, housing, welfare, low incomes, job needs etc whilst at the same time teaching them to cook healthily and buy efficiently.

The Trust also has a large recycling and upcycling project in Salisbury which supports 12 shops that provide good quality low cost goods to people who struggle to shop in the high street. The upcycling and sorting provides over 500 regular volunteering opportunities many of which are used as training schemes for clients and ex-clients and other people who have life issues which prevent them from entering the workplace. In 2015/16 this activity generated £1.6m income which is used to support this and if surpluses are available other projects, recycles over 4000 tonnes of waste products a year and provides over 40 paid jobs which support the local economy.

Mark ran Salisbury foodbank and for 4 years until 2011, was then asked to manage Fundraising, Marketing and Communications but from 1st April 2016 he became responsible for Risk Management within the Trust and it’s networks using his skills gained over 25 years in banking risk and compliance management.

Mark is currently Interim CEO.
